Kim Garver

The Artist:

Kim Garver,  specializes in teaching knitting techniques and is a restorer of vintage sock knitting machines —fifteen years dedicated to teaching others in the fiber community.  She is an internationally known sock knitting instructor. Kim has been conducting workshops and teaching various “olden way” methods for 15 years. She has taught workshops throughout the mid-west and eastern regions of the United Sates for different organizations and fairs relegated to the fiber community. She has conducted live international webinars for the last three years and students have travelled from Japan, Germany, and England to attend her in-person workshops.

Guild Meeting/Program: More Than Just Socks

Don’t worry, we’ll still talk about socks! Learn the history of sock knitting machines and how Kimberly’s engineering mind has helped her to think outside the sock to make more fun items on antique and modern sock knitting machines.

Date/Time: March 14, 2026 10:30 AM (following Guild meeting)

Location: St. James Episcopal Church, 11815 Seven Locks Rd, Potomac, MD 20854

Mini Workshop: Making a Headband on a Sock Knitting Machine

This class is great for anyone curious about sock knitting machines and how to operate one without the complexities of toes and heels. This mini-workshop provides an opportunity to try a machine and make a long tube to become a faux mobius headband, scarf, or dyeing blank. Materials fee is $28, which covers a skein of yarn pre-wound on instructor’s cones and handouts.

Please note: we are offering two different sessions of this workshop.  Because of the logistics with the knitting machines there are only 6 seats in each mini workshop.  Pick one of the two below to register.
