Program

Norma Brooks

The Artist:

Norma Brooks has a love for art and a passion for creativity that led her to design fine jewelry pieces after retiring as a dental hygienist. While working with beads, metals, stones, and glass, she decided to expand her creations by incorporating the use of fabric. The fabric art she creates consists of baskets, trivets, coasters, and wall art using coiling, weaving, and crocheting techniques. Her products are one of a kind, showcasing rich and vibrant colors, unique patterns, and mixed textures. She loves to upcycle different objects she finds by using them as embellishments. It is a challenge to mix, match, and pair the conventional with the unusual. What a surprise to see the results, whether it is intentional or unexpected. It amazes her how fabric and rope can be manipulated.

Guild Meeting/Program: My Evolution – Birth of A Basket and All Its Offspring

Norma Brooks uses rope, fabric, and found objects to create baskets, bowls, trivets, coasters, rugs, wall art, and brooches. Coiling, weaving, crocheting and sewing techniques are some of the methods she uses to achieve rich and vibrant colors, unique patterns and mixed texture.
