Cori Leyden-Sussler
The Artist:
Cori Leyden-Sussler is a Maryland-based cosplayer/costumer who has a passion for teaching and craftsmanship. She holds a B.F.A. in Technical Theater and Costume Design and an M.A. in Puppetry (with a high focus on Fabrication). She has taught for over a decade for both higher education and K-12 students. Cori currently works as a professor, specializing in Makerspace classes. Her specialties include sewing, sculpture, embroidery, fabric painting, foam fabrication, thermoplastics, wood carving, 3d printing/modeling, leather, beading, and prop work. She appears as a guest, panelist, professional educator, and craftsmanship judge at conventions. She competed and won at the master’s level for her work.
Guild Meeting/Program: Cosplay and Embellishments: Bringing a Costume to Life
A primer into what is cosplay, along with a discussion of textile modification that is commonly used in cosplay (embroidery, beading, paint/dye).

Mini Workshop: Elevating your Garment With Hand Techniques
This workshop will focus on expanding the knowledge of participants in garment construction. We’ll be creating samples of advanced hand-sewing techniques, different seam finishes, applying bias tape correctly for garments, and pad-stitching for bespoke tailoring. We will also go over some garment construction, including how to decipher commercial patterns, with a live demo on dart manipulation.
