Margo Lehman

Bio:

Margo Lehman received her training in traditional oil painting from Glen Kessler in the Master Artist Program (MAP) at the Compass Atelier in Rockville, MD. Color Theory was explored for nearly an entire semester. Glen Kessler is known for being a “colorist”, so the subject was revisited in nearly every assignment. When Margo demonstrated the application of these principles in her felted artwork, her instructor was convinced that fiber art and “fine art” belonged in the same league. In addition to painting, Margo has jumped into the fiber arts first with felted artwork and now spinning, weaving and stitching with an eye on learning some basic garment making skills. It’s all art to her.

Guild Meeting/Program: How We See Color, How We Use Color

Color brightens our own wardrobes, but it also describes and helps us navigate the world around us. This presentation will take a closer look at our perception of color and its effects on our thoughts and emotions. It may even dispel a few myths we may hold about color. We’ll look at the history of the color wheel as we know it and revisit our old friend ROY G BIV who we met in grade school. Then we’ll consider some more contemporary and useful methods for understanding color relationships.

Mini Workshop: Playing with Color

(All skill levels welcome) In this workshop you will learn the three elements of color: hue, saturation and value, all about color “relationships” and how to use them whatever the medium. Using several different color wheels and color picker tools available, you will have the opportunity to play and understand how to mix colors using paint, wool, fabric, yarn, and thread, while creating a color wheel in the medium of your choice.

As a bonus, those wishing to work with wool we have available hand carders and a mini drum carder available for blending colors. Participants will leave with at least two color wheels, a value finder scale and a list of recommended reference books.
