Program and Workshops

Kevin Womack

The Artist:

Kevin Womack is a textile artist living in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1986, he was introduced to quilting by his maternal grandmother, who taught him the tradition. Inspired by the legacy of scrap fabrics in family quilts, he explored the boundless possibilities of pattern and cloth. Kevin’s fervor for using fiber as a medium has endured through the years.

Kevin is passionate about hand dyeing and patterning fabrics with surface design techniques and composing quilts with his one-of-a-kind cloth. His works have been exhibited at many regional and national shows.

Quilts from Kevin’s “Swaddling to Shroud” collaborative series with artist Eleanor McCain have been included in the Quilt National ‘13 exhibition and Quilt Visions Biennial 2014. He was awarded Best in Show at Quilts=Art=Quilts 2021 at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY, and received the Award of Excellence at 2023 Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie at the Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center in New Albany, IN. Kevin teaches and lectures nationally.

Guild Meeting/Program: Playful Patterning with Fabric Paints

Tools from kitchen and hardware stores plus other “junk” you may have around your house can make incredibly interesting marks on fabric. Wire whisks, spatulas, string, wine bottles, and bubble wrap are just a few examples. Join Kevin to see unique fabric examples created using these tools and others. Observe his process as he prints fabrics using gelatin plate monoprinting with “junk.” Empty out that junk drawer and discover the wonders of printing your own patterns on fabric!

Date/Time: May 10, 2025 10:30 AM (following Guild meeting)

Location: St. James Episcopal Church, 11815 Seven Locks Rd, Potomac, MD 20854

Mini Workshop: Adventures in Gelli Plate™ Printing

Explore methods of monoprinting on cloth using a Gelli Plate™ and/or a gelatin plate in this fun, process-oriented workshop. Create complex textural imagery by patterning with found objects and fabric paints. A gelatin plate will break down with use, producing even more wonderfully textured results. Join Kevin as he introduces several methods of producing prints and layering imagery. Your work is limited only by your imagination. Come prepared to have fun, get messy and be seduced by the silky-smooth surface of a gelatin plate
